JUNIOR HIGH CHOIR | Grades 7-8

Junior High General Music is required for all students enrolled in grades 7 and 8. Music class will meet 3 days per week. In this class the student will be studying music theory, music appreciation, and the proper techniques of singing. Although performing will not be the main emphasis of this class the group will perform twice a year for the Christmas and Spring Concerts. All students will be expected to be in attendance at these performances. Students will also be required to compete at the Jr. High MACS Fine Arts Competition.
 
Music grades will be based on daily work, test grades, and participation. There may occasionally be homework assignments given.

CONCERT CHOIR | Grades 9-12

Fees: $50.00 to help with music expenses and outfit rental
The senior high concert choir is an option for all students enrolled in 9th-12th grades. Choir meets three days a week and will perform for several major events. Attendance at each is required. An unexcused absence will affect their grade. Throughout the year this group will have a variety of opportunities to perform. Included in these are:
 
Dress code for all performances is as follows:

Ladies: The school rents to the ladies a formal black outfit. The girls are required to purchase black hose, and a pair of black shoes (with a heel). The fee pays for the year-end dry cleaning and rental. Any additional cleaning or damage to the dress will be the student’s responsibility.

Men: The school rents to the men a tuxedo outfit (5-piece: shirt, cumber bun, bow tie, pants and jacket). Any damage or loss will be the responsibility of the student. The men are also required to purchase a pair of black socks and black dress shoes.

All students must comply with the above dress regulations in order to be a member of the choir. Choir grades are based on each student’s individual effort, classroom behavior, and attendance at required performances. Occasionally there will also be a written quiz or test.

During Choir/Drama Tour students will travel to other schools and churches across the state to minister. It is also a time of spiritual growth. The cost is $50.00 plus meals.

The MACS Competition is an all day event. It will cost each student $5.00-$20.00 depending on what areas of competition the student enters.

ENSEMBLE | Grades 9-12 by audition

Fee: $20.00 for music expenses.
 
The ensemble is the most proficient group of vocal musicians at Calvary Baptist Academy. The group is made up of 16 students enrolled in 9th-12th grade. In order to participate in this group you must be a member of the Sr. High Concert Choir. Auditions are held the first week of school by the music faculty. The ensemble performs more than any other music group throughout the year. Some of their performances include:
  • Choir/Drama Tour
  • Dow Gardens
  • Christmas Concert
  • Christian Education Banquet
  • MACS
  • Spring Concert
  • High School Graduation
  • Other various ministry opportunities
Additional performances may be added by the conductor throughout the year.
 
The dress regulations for the ensemble are the same as that of the Concert Choir. The ensemble is not a class that receives a grade. However, students are expected to maintain high music, behavior, and performance standards in order to remain a member of the group.
